There is no dearth of beauty care products in the market offering the best care for your skin type. You can easily pick the right product that is best suited for your skin tone. The challenge is to correctly identify what your skin type actually is. Skin’s texture is generally categorized into four types – normal, oily, dry and combination. There are many internal and external factors which influence your skin and its behavior. Therefore it is necessary that you know your facial skin type, so you can further take better care and choose products that work best for it.
How to go about it
There are various ways to comprehend your skin type. One simple method that you can follow in easy steps is given below-
- Cleanse your face with lukewarm water to get rid of the day’s dirt, grime and make up, giving it a fresher look.
- Wait for a couple of hours without applying anything on your skin, so it settles into its natural original state.
- Look into the mirror and based on what you see you’ll be able to define your skin type.
You could also take a blotting paper and gently rub it on different areas of your face. Hold the paper against light and judging by the amount of oiliness it reveals you can determine your skin type.
Oily skin –
if you find your skin looking greasy and slick to touch, you have an oily skin type.
You need to cleanse your face more often and use oil free gels and liquids to control the emergence of breakouts. Keep away from heavy textured creams and moisturizers.
Dry skin –
if you find your skin looking and feeling tight and pulled along with some flakiness, you have a dry skin type.
You need to keep your skin hydrated and well moistened at all times with non-irritating lotions, emollients, creams etc., so it remains well-nourished at all times.
Combination skin –
if you find your skin to be dry or normal in parts other than the forehead, nose and chin (t-zone), which tends to be oily, you have a combination skin type.
It is advisable for people with combination skin to use different products for different parts of the facial skin to balance out the different skin types. For instance, moisturize the dry areas with lotions and emollients whereas liquids and gels help cut the oil out of the T-zone area.
Normal skin –
if you find your skin looking and feeling naturally soft without any oiliness or dryness, you have a normal skin type – the best one can have.
As your skin is already well balanced, creams and serums that feel light on the skin are all that you need to have a beautiful healthy skin.
Now that you have figured what your skin type is, do your skin a favor and choose the right products for the right care of your skin. However, don’t forget that everyone’s skin is different and it may be possible that two people with combination skin have varying degrees of oily and dry textures.
